Thermoelectric properties of copper chalcogenide alloys deposited via the solution-phase using a thiol–amine solvent mixture

There has been a growing interest in solution-phase routes to thermoelectric materials due to the decreased costs and novel device architectures that these methods enable. Many excellent thermoelectric materials are metal chalcogenide semiconductors and the ability to create soluble metal chalcogenide semiconductor precursors using thiol–amine solvent mixtures was recently demonstrated by other...

Thermoelectrics (TE) is a green renewable energy technology which plays an import role in power generation due to its potential in generating electricity out of waste heat. The challenge for the development of thermoelectric is its low conversion efficiency. The efficiency of thermoelectric materials is related to the figure of merit, which is expressed as ZT = S2σT/, where S is the Seebeck coe...

Enhancing thermoelectric properties of organic composites through hierarchical nanostructures

Organic thermoelectric (TE) materials are very attractive due to easy processing, material abundance, and environmentally-benign characteristics, but their potential is significantly restricted by the inferior thermoelectric properties. In this work, noncovalently functionalized graphene with fullerene by π-π stacking in a liquid-liquid interface was integrated into poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythioph...

Design of a thermoelectric characterization platform for thin-film bismuth telluride

In this paper, we discuss the construction of a small apparatus less than 3cm large to characterize the thermoelectric properties of a small thermoelectric sample that can be easily used in cryogenic environments. The device was then used to measure the thermal conductivity of silicon and the Seebeck coefficient of thin film bismuth telluride. Thin film bismuth telluride has become of particula...

The Fragility of Thermoelectric Power Factor in Cross-Plane Superlattices in the Presence of Nonidealities: A Quantum Transport Simulation Approach

Energy filtering has been put forth as a promising method for achieving large thermoelectric power factors in thermoelectric materials through Seebeck coefficient improvement. Materials with embedded potential barriers, such as cross-plane superlattices, provide energy filtering, in addition to low thermal conductivity, and could potentially achieve high figure of merit. Although there exist ma...
